Topics: family/school collaboration, understanding special education law - known as IDEA 2004, appropriate evaluations, providing special education and related services across general education settings, curriculum modifications, effective advocacy, positive behavior support plans, person-centered planning, and how to write a useful and legally correct Individual Education Plan (IEP). The training will offer both basic information and in-depth cutting-edge information for seasoned participants.

Topics include family/school collaboration, understanding the changes in the reauthorized special education law – known as IDEA 2004, appropriate evaluations, FAPE, LRE, providing related services across general education settings, inclusion, curriculum modifications, effective advocacy, people first language, person-centered planning, and how to write a useful and legally correct IEP (Individual Education Plan). This workshop is offered free of charge to educators, administrators, parents, and advocates who want to be empowered with information on special education. Prizes, fun, food, and abundant materials. Navigating the Process of Effective Advocacy Albertus Magnus College, 700 Prospect Street, New Haven, CT Who We Are The Connecticut Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (CONNBIDA) is a CT based branch of the international organization that concerns itself with the complex issues of dyslexia. The purpose of IDA is to pursue and provide the most comprehensive range of information and services that address the full scope of dyslexia and related difficulties in learning to read and write . . . In a way that creates hope, possibility, and partnership. Haskins Literacy Initiative promotes the science of teaching reading—through comprehensive professional development, coaching and classroom support to make teachers “method-proof” masters of literacy practices; by designing and conducting research; and by engaging in advocacy to inform public policy and improve reading achievement for every child.
