Bullying and gangs pose serious threats to student safety and can disrupt the learing
process. Cyberbullying is on the rise as bullies turn to instant messaging, e-mail and texting to harass, intimidate, and frighten their victims. Young people who lack a commitment to education
and attachment to the school community are more likely to engage in a variety of problem
behaviors. School personnel are in an ideal poistion to detect, prevent and help reduce the negative consequences of bullying, cyberbullying and gang involvement. Schools, parents, students
and community members need to work together to create safe school evironments and
keep students connected to school and committed to education.
Mission
NNHT’s mission is to provide advocacy for a safe, accepting, and stimulating environment for healthy teen empowerment offering a broad spectrum of initiatives supporting family and community involvement for young people.
Vision
To become an influential and proactive resource that the community, parents, schools, and teens turn to when seeking assistance in fully nurturing, developing, mentoring, and understanding teenagers.
Statement of Opportunity of Need
With the reduction in adult/child mentoring time available with the growing number of two working parents, minimal or no extended family, and the priority of schools to teach a more intense curriculum, insufficient time is available for the vital and daily one on one needed of teens today. As a result, disconnects take place between youth and adults, which translate into negativism, rebellion, high risk behavior and youth problems growing at an alarming rate.
NNHT hopes to be a means of addressing teen problems with adults and teens being available with the expressed mission of connecting, mentoring, and developing “extended family” connections with young people, especially those who tend to be neglected or fall through the cracks of traditional care. NNHT would also like to work addressing the need for youth having a place to receive help with their homework, interact with parents and community leaders in a safe and fun environment, and unwind and reduce the stress of being a teen

Kendall School Field cleanup was great. The kids now have a safe and clean place to play baseball. Unfortunately some people feel this is a dumping ground for unwanted garbage, bottles, oil cans and other articles. Hopefully people will realize this is a school where small children play everyday and should be treated with respect. Parks and Rec have done a great job maintaining the area but without the consideration of those who use the field all the efforts in the world won't help. People need to cleanup after their dogs and cleanup after themselves. To those who feel the need to dump garbage from the backs of pickup trucks into the school parking lot, this is totally unacceptable. All of our schools and parks should be treated with respect.
Flax Hill Park cleanup was a huge success thanks to all that came out and gave us 3 hours
Sunday morning. We were able to cleanup most of the park including all around the pond where some have decided to use for a dumping ground. Its amazing what we found but the good news is, its all bagged and ready for pickup by the city. We got to make an already great park a freshly cleaned one where kids can play and the community can enjoy. Community leaders, teachers, parents, teens and concerned neighbors came out and pitched in and we bagged dozens of bags of waste and garbage that should never be found in a community park. Now its up to those who use the park to be courteous to their fellow neighbors and pick up after themselves.

Cleanup supplies were donated by the city thanks to Mike Mocciae and Dave Shockley
Unfortunately due to the rain in the last couple of days we weren't able to have our softball game.

The HOUR-SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2008
Bouquets to a local activist and her volunteers who spent last
Sunday cleaning up a city park. Joanne Romano, a former city
councilwoman, organized “Norwalk Neighbors HelpingOur Teens”
with the hope of involving teenagers in their community.
The Flax Hill Park cleanup went well, but of
the dozen people who showed up and pitched in,
there were only a few teenagers. They collected
about 60 bags of garbage, along with assorted debris including tires.
She plans a similar cleanup for Ryan Park.
We hope that effort will draw better support from teenagers.
